You’ve found the perfect person. You have the perfect ring. Now it’s time to find that perfect dress. Normally, when walking into a bridal salon you will be swarmed with questions about the big day. When is the wedding? Where is the venue? How many people? What are your colors? Any idea on themes? What do you envision for that special day? Don’t let this scare you off, your consultant is trying to get a better idea of your vision for the big day to help make finding the perfect dress easier.
Let’s start with some basics. You can expect a typical bridal appointment to last anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half. Find the perfect team you want to bring with you on the journey to search for the gown- your mom, your MOH, sisters, future mother in law, friends- just remember YOU are the one walking down the aisle in that gorgeous dress. One major factor people forget is, bridal gowns are typically not something you take home with you the day you buy. A normal timeline for ordering a bridal gown looks something like 6-9 months. Start early!
As far as attire goes, think about what you would wear on the real day. Underwear is a must, the coverage is your decision. Strapless bras are suggested but some tend to go without to get a better fit when trying on dresses. Typically, your consultant will be helping you in and out of the dresses, so dress to your comfort level. Most bridal salons try to have a range of sizes. Unfortunately that does not always go as planned. Designers will send what samples they have from trunk shows, fashion shows, or whatever is in stock. Bridal sizes run small, ironic right? Typically, bridal stores carry sizes 10-20 (not street size, think half sizes), ranging from designer, cut, and material.
Come in with some ideas of what you are planning to wear- pinterest pictures, shapes, necklines, lace or beading, romantic or modern- try on everything once. You may be surprised, sometimes the perfect dress is what you least expected. You and your consultant will be working as a team so sharing all information you have will help to bring you a beautiful range of dresses. Have an idea of budget before the journey starts. You want to make sure when you fall in love with a dress, it does not break the bank.
Do not hesitate to ask questions! Your consultant is there to be your guide. Tell them what you don’t like, what you do like, what you would want to change. They did not design, don’t hold back, tell them the truth it will only make finding the one easier! All in all wedding dress shopping should be an exciting, fun experience. Finding that special dress should be stress free, take a breathe and remember what this is all about- love.
Happy shopping ladies!
